New project

I am a huge fan of homemade food, especially when you grow the ingredients yourself. When i came to Barcelona i had big plans about planting all kinds of fruits, vegetables and so on... of course i did not do it (yet). To get started and see if i have a green thumb (thats what the germans say, i don't know if its a common expression in english)i bought some seeds. I never grew anything in my life before, so i am quite excited for the result. I decided to start with basil and cress, because they can be used for a lot of nice dishes.
What you need:
Seeds
Earth
Cans
Water

Usually there is a description on the back of the package that explains how to plant them. The basil seeds need to be covered with earth, the cress seeds instead need to be sprinkled on top of it. My advise: google the seed and check what they recommend.

It's all about FOOD

Finally i can post some of the food that we have been cooking lately. I love to cook, but sometimes i just don't find the time. Last Thursday we watched a series in university, called Black Mirror (episode: White Christmas). For anyone who likes weird movies that make you think, this one is very, very creepy but cool. The episodes are not based on each other, but they all are technology related. I think it's super interesting to watch, because technology nowadays is evolving so fast and we don't know where it will lead us in the future. Our lovely teacher Ricardo brought us orange brownies, so i decided to do my classic yogurt-cocunut cake.

Coconut-yogurt cake recipe
1 cup of yogurt (natural or greek)
1 cup of sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup coconut rasps
1/2 cup oil
1 package vanillin sugar
1 package backing powder
3 eggs (egg white)

Mix everything except the eggs. After separating the egg yolk from the egg white, beat until fluffy. Then carefully add it to the mixture. Put everything in the oven for about 40min on 160°C. I always add white chocolate and either fruits or dark chocolate (double chocolate!!), but you can get creative and put any fruits or toppings you like.

Spring rolls

What you need:
Ricepaper
Cucumber
Prawns
Soybeans
Salad
Basil
Ricenoodles
Mint
Hoisin sauce (or any other asian sauce you like)

Cook the prawns (if not pre-cooked)and the rice noodles. When finished, put a rice paper in water. After 20-30 seconds it is soft, put it on a plate and fill with the ingredients. There is no right way of doing it, we just added what we had in the fridge and what we think goes together. One more time: be creative! (In my opinion that's what cooking is about)

Hotelschool pays off... haha
